I don’t think this has anything to do for or against gun violence. It’s just objectively true. Domestic violence is down, murders are down, war deaths are down, rape is down. In prehistoric civilizations you had a 20-50% chance of dying a violent death and each century and each millennia that has decreased. Even each decade it has decreased. Your chance of dying by gun violence in 1970s was much higher than today. Recognizing the progress of humanity in no way means we can’t strive for more. I think gun violence is a problem, I am a liberal, but I am still glad to be living in 2017 more than in any other date in history.
